Instrumental lymphatic drainage

Procedures

Treatment Classification:

Treatment based on a medical examination or consultation.

Treatment Character:

Mechanical lymphatic drainage releases lymph nodes and moves lymph from the area affected by lymphedema using pressure waves.

Treatment Course:

Mechanical lymphatic drainage uses compression sleeves. Inside these sleeves are chambers that inflate according to a pre-set program. It is also important to follow the rules for setting the optimal pressure to ensure that the compression is adequate, but not so strong as to damage the lymphatic system. As the garment inflates, it increases in volume, applying pressure to the muscles and thus supporting the function of the lymphatic and circulatory systems.

Main Indications:

The device improves the function of veins and lymphatic pathways and is used for primary and secondary lymphedema (lymphatic swelling), post-traumatic conditions, the feeling of heavy legs, or after significant muscle exertion. Lymphatic drainage also stimulates the immune system and detoxifies the body by releasing the lymphatic system. It helps reduce cellulite.

Main Contraindications:

Malignant tumors, acute bacterial and viral infections, fever, any wounds or injuries at the wrap site, acute skin conditions (acute eczema, psoriasis, atopic eczema, severe acne), large birthmarks, inflammation of the subcutaneous tissue (erysipelas), acute venous diseases – recurring venous inflammations, unclear abdominal pain, severe diabetes, liver disease (liver cirrhosis) and kidney disease (patients undergoing hemodialysis), gout, heart function disorders, severe psychiatric disorders, glaucoma (due to increased intraocular pressure), pregnancy.

Duration of Treatment:

30 minutes.

What to Bring to the Treatment:

It is necessary to come in long pants, socks, and a long-sleeved shirt (if you have been prescribed lymphatic drainage of the upper limbs).
